Affinity

On November 12th Transforma Theatre, in partnership with The Cell, held their first annual Science in Theatre Festival, a celebration of the alignment of theatre and science. The three day event featured original plays crafted through the collaboration of playwrights and scientists, innovative technology presentations, and panels held between creators and experts.

Dr. Heidi Boisvert collaborated with playwright Alexis Roblan to share a one-act play based on futurePerfect’s Limbic Lab and Boisvert’s research in the field of neuroscience.

The play, Affinity, is told through a protagonist, Netta, who questions whether translating experience creates understanding, if none of the details of that experience remain intact. The play explores how our interactions with media have become increasingly individualized and how that affects our capacity to understand one another when we do not have shared lived experiences.

The panel held after the play consisted of Moran Cerf, Karen Ingram and Daanish Masood, along with Boisvert and Roblan.
