This March Heidi Boisvert was invited to speak for BioArt Talks @ CBIS, presented by her alma mater, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute‘s Center for Biotechnology, the ARTS department & the School of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences, and the Sanctuary for Independent Media’s NATURE Lab.
Her talk, Embodied Intelligence & the Future of the Performing Body, highlighted her current research methods and emerging insights from the Limbic Lab. Additionally, she discussed how these findings have informed her works in bio-adaptive, networked dance and mixed reality theatre performances that interrogate how our bodies carry intergenerational trauma, are surveilled, controlled, and spun out of balance by our dependence upon technology and speculate on future bodies.
The series featured one hour online talks given by bio-arts Orkan Telhan, Aisen Caro Chacin, Anna Lindemann, Mary Maggic, and Boisvert. Topics covered a wide range such as: “research into lost environmental microbial systems, cognitive states of mind and behavior, biomechanical prototyping of assisted device design, colony-building with non-humans, and queering hormone disruption.”
